Can't get past login screen after installing Nvidia driver 319.23
I tried to install the nvidia driver 319.23 on my Dell XPS laptop because it has optimus support and I wanted to get hdmi working for a while now. The installation ran fine, however, the same problem I had with all the previous nvidia drivers appeared again ( resolution frozen at 640x480, error message poping up saying no other compatible resolutions found. ), so I uninstalled it again. After rebooting, the login screen was at normal resolution again, but after I type in my password the screen goes black for a second and I'm at the login screen again.
So I tried installing the nvidia drivers again, but it doesnt fix the problem. This is how my xorg.conf looks like:
# nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig
# nvidia-xconfig: version 319.12 (buildmeister@swio-display-x86-rhel47-06) Wed Apr 3 16:12:29 PDT 2013

I'm hoping to avoid reinstalling the whole system. Also it would be great if someone knows how to get the latest nvidia drivers working on Ubuntu.
